Technology Classes for grades K-6:

Kindergarten
The kindergarteners have been learning about the technology rules at school and how to take care of our devices. We have begun using Seesaw in Technology class and have been able to use the iPads to record our work. The students have used the iPads to navigate and explore the educational websites, PBS Kids and BookFlix. The kindergarteners have been learning about the laptops. They have learned how to turn the laptops on, how to login to the student account, and how to shut the laptops down. They have been practicing using the keyboards and trackpads on the laptops. When using the laptops, students have been visiting the educational websites, ABCya.com and Starfall.com.
1st Grade
The 1st graders have been reviewing the technology rules at school and how to take care of our devices. We have been using Seesaw in Technology class and have been using the iPads to complete activities within Seesaw. The students have used the iPads to navigate and explore the educational websites, PBS Kids and NetSmartz Kids. The 1st graders have also been using the laptops this school year. The used these to complete Nativity scenes using the Pixie software. They have completed "All About Me" webs using the Kidspiration software. Students imported their picture from the server, searched for images that told something about themselves, and typed sentences to go along with these images.
2nd Grade
The 2nd graders have been reviewing the technology rules at school and how to take care of our devices. We have been using Seesaw in Technology class and have been using the iPads to complete activities within Seesaw. The second grade students have been reviewing computer basics and login procedures and have also been learning about Internet safety. They used the iPads to explore the educational website, PBS Kids. They have been using the laptops to explore the educational website, ABC Mouse, and have learned about creating their own avatars within that program. The 2nd graders have been working on an animal research project. Students chose an animal, spent time researching the animal from a variety of websites, and learned about taking notes to organize their information found while researching. Students typed paragraphs into the program, Pixie. Students added illustrations and voice recordings to their projects. These reports will be put together into a digital class book.
3rd Grade
The 3rd graders have reviewed computer basics and Internet safety. We have reviewed the technology rules at school and how to take care of our devices. The 3rd graders have been using Seesaw in Technology class and have been using the iPads to complete activities within Seesaw. They have begun to learn about the online resources from Keystone AEA, such as TrueFlix and FollettShelf. The 3rd graders have learned about keyboarding fundamentals and have been practicing their keyboarding skills using Typing.com. They are working hard to learn the correct finger positions to use when typing and the importance of using two hands to type. The 3rd graders have spent time exploring the world around them virtually using Google Earth. They also received their Google accounts and have been working with these to create documents that are shared with others.
4th Grade
The 4th graders reviewed Internet safety and computer basics. We have reviewed the technology rules at school and how to take care of our devices. This year, the 4th graders have each received a Chromebook to use 1:1 in school. They have learned about how to use and personalize their Chromebook by adding bookmarks, changing the wallpaper, etc. The 4th graders have reviewed the use of their Google accounts and have been introduced to Google Classroom. They have begun to explore the online resources from Keystone AEA more in depth and have been introduced to ClassLink, a single sign on website that is being using in conjunction with Keystone AEA. Students have learned about putting library books on hold through Xavier School’s Follett library system. The 4th graders have been practicing their keyboarding skills using the online program, TypingWeb.com. They are working hard to learn the correct finger positions to use when typing and the importance of using two hands to type. They worked with a partner to create a prayer presentation using the program, Google Slides. Using this program, the students learned how to add and delete slides, add and manipulate text and background images, implement the use of transitions and special effects, and incorporate music downloaded from Soundzabound. These presentations are currently being shown on episodes of KSFX, the school newscast.
5th Grade
The 5th graders reviewed Internet safety, the technology rules at school, and how to take care of our devices. The 5th graders all have received school Chromebooks to be used in a 1:1 setting. Students have learned more about their Chromebooks and have reviewed the use of their online Google accounts. They have been introduced to Google Classroom, Gmail, and how to add addresses to their Contacts list. They have explored the online resources from Keystone AEA more in depth and have been introduced to ClassLink, a single sign on website that is being using in conjunction with Keystone AEA. Students have learned about putting library books on hold through Xavier School’s Follett library system. The 5th graders have been practicing their keyboarding skills using the online program, TypingWeb.com. They have also been spending time at an educational math focused website, Sumdog.com. The 5th graders received Animoto accounts. They created a book trailer video that focused on one of their favorite books, authors, or series using the web-based program, Animoto. They were given the opportunity to share these with their classmates.
6th Grade
The 6th graders reviewed Internet safety, the technology rules at school, and how to take care of our devices. The 6th grade students continue to use their Chromebooks in a 1:1 setting and have reviewed the use of their online Google accounts. They have learned more about their Chromebooks and Google Classroom. They have been introduced to Gmail and Google Contacts, and have started using their school email accounts to contact teachers and classmates. They have explored the online resources from Keystone AEA more in depth and have been introduced to ClassLink, a single sign on website that is being using in conjunction with Keystone AEA. Students have learned about putting library books on hold through Xavier School’s Follett library system. The 6th graders learned about the computer program, iMovie. They researched an internet safety topic and used this research to produce an iMovie, in order to create awareness of their chosen topic.
